Back on the trail, the thunder of hooves caught his attention. Unclear in the darkness, Travis guessed about five men headed straight toward Briar Creek. Had he stayed on his original path, he'd have come across those men. If Travis was a betting man, he'd toss a bag of silver that the travelers were marshals. As fast as he was riding, he would have caught up to at least one of his gang. He made damn sure his horse had the best legs in the outfit.

"Nash, you dirty son of a bitch." Travis continued away from the trail for a bit before saddling up. They had two hideouts in this area and since the one to the south wasn't safe, he headed north. Someone had to have heard Travis say to head south.

By the time he reached the outcropping, the sun had begun to rise. A small fire blazed just inside the small cave. Whistling to the left stopped his horse up short. Zane, about the only one he trusted, emerged from the brush.

"Nash is in there bellyaching about you not spreading the wealth amongst the men, as he sees it. Some are listening."
